so /lit/, I was born with a pretty shitty genetic hand (<100IQ). Definitely have some learning disabilities but have an interest in literature, so I tried reading Pynchon, Joyce and Delillo after taking your advice but honestly I felt like they stream rolled me. Reading them felt like hard work and I'd often get lost in the narrative and lose my understanding of the plot.

Is there any great /lit/ that's also easy on us simpletons?

Who's this sexy piece of pudge? My dick is like iron right now. I want to feed him slices of Sargento's Reduced Fat Pepper Jack cheese and make that little number wrapped up in his Sports Authority basketball shorts release at least a gallon's worth of retard seed

Honestly I don't think you're missing too much with Pynchon and Joyce. Sure, they're geniuses and masters of their craft, but the shit is so overwrought and dense that it's nearly impossible to read for pleasure.

Did you try White Noise by DeLillo? I think that's a pretty accessible book of his, and one of his best.

Wolf Hall is a great read. Full of characters and intrigue, but pretty straightforward.

Gaiman.

Those are all really hard to start with. Why don't you try the new translation of Crime and Punishment? It's readable and a classic.
>>
Stop using literature to feel better about your sub-par intelligence and maybe you'll enjoy it more.

Jesus, I was just trying to find 'good' literature by people who apparently know what they're talking about. Wasn't using it to feel any better about myself dude

IQ is not an accurate way to measure someone's intelligence or potential.

The idea that someone's mental ability can be measured by 7 'tests' is absurd.

It fails to take into account the external factors of the test itself. It's also designed to give individual's who excel in the tradition classroom and test-taking environment a better score.

Rodney Alcala and Ed Kemper both had genius IQs. Look what happened to them.

I'm not saying everyone who scores well on an IQ test is a psychopath, but Einstein and Oppenheimer gave us the atom bomb.

Nathaniel West and Bukowski are good recs for bad readers

Yeah WN was the one I tried. He was the most enjoyable of those three by far. I might pick up Underworld.

Might go with Franzen again, he was pretty great. But it takes me forever to read through them. I'd prefer something I can blow through without consuming a whole lotta mental energy lol
>>
I never considered myself that smart yet I don't have much of a problem with Pynchon, Joyce etc. Maybe it's more of you can't pay attention to what you are reading.
>>
>>9395490

Yeah that's probably more accurate actually

It's like a muscle. The more you read, the stronger you get. Read more.

Read genre shit to train your brain to read for prolonged periods of time while still absorbing information.
I think I read The Illustrated Man to help me get into the swing of things.
Just pick up whatever's popular and interesting before shifting gears into more demanding literature.
The Illustrated Man, Slaughterhouse 5, The Stranger, The Road, and 1984 are good and easy. Or just some sci-fi/fantasy

You're being a fucking dick.

You gotta actually think about a book to get it. Try to map out the events in the 3-act structure graph if you're lost on the plot. Next time you read something and you get the plot, write about the book. Write about what you think it was saying or how it surprised you. If you don't know what the fuck it was saying, then just try to locate some sort of pattern in the book and write about that.

You'll get better a lot quicker if you try to write down your thoughts.
