What is your ratio of complex prose literature to simple prose literature? I tend to read more complex prose literature, but I read less total books as a result.

i read no books nigga haha!!
Keep in mind that Don Quijote is still a much better book than Ulysses.
The complexity of Ulysses, by the way, is fake complexity. If you want real complexity, learn a new language, become a polyglot. Now that is something that takes *actual work*, so I am pretty sure most people on this board will not do it, or most anglophones at least.

Ulysses is fake complexity? do expound on that sentiment, if you would.

I read about 30/70 complex prose and poetry

It can be understood with a guide. Sometimes not even a guide. I didn't need a guide for episode 14, which is my favorite. Anyone familiar with the Norton Anthology will easily get it. It's very funny. The reason why Joyce deserves to be in the canon is that he was such a great humourist.
I usually just have a genre book on hand so that I can blast the cobwebs out if I start struggling with/getting bored with something more cerebral. I also use poetry and drama to serve essentially the same function.

there's quite a lot of undercurrents surging in Ulysses, check out frank delaney's podcast on it, it's mind boggling the amount of shit you just can't know without several hours of research on a sentence by sentence basis. i don't know if that's fake complexity or what constitutes complexity to you, but it serves my purposes as an example for complexity.
