I like much more what Zizek has to say about self-interest:
>Another trap to be avoided is the moralizing anti-capitalism—all the talk about how capitalism is sustained by the egotist greed of individual capitalists for more power and wealth. In actual capitalism, personal greed is subordinated to the impersonal striving of the capital itself to reproduce and to expand. One is thus almost tempted to say that what we really need is more, not less, enlightened egotism. Take the ecological threat: no pseudo-animistic love for nature is needed to act here, just a long-term egotist interest.
Stirner has the same idea, while he was opposed to Marx, he did believe that workers could unite though a union of egoists, because your material self-interest aligns with those of other people who live under similar conditions. I think that's what we really need: to turn libertarian/ancap logic on its head. It's in your self-interest to cooperate with people and establish socialism, while it requires altruism and ignoring your self-interest to compete with people and maintain capitalism.
Rand's sub-literate garbage and her economic gobbledegook are beloved by greedy sociopathic arseholes of the type that have fucked up the economy, Greenspan, Yelland, Summers and the filth that infest Wall Street and the city of London are paradigms of the type.
Rand idolized serial killer and sadist William Hickman, Rand was under no illusions about "the boss class"
“Other people do not exist for him, and he does not see why they should,” she wrote, gushing that Hickman had “no regard whatsoever for all that society holds sacred, and with a consciousness all his own. He has the true, innate psychology of a Superman. He can never realize and feel ‘other people.'”
She was a monster. The right's equivalent of Marx, not least for her ability to appeal to young, white, middle-class, sheltered males
