Just look at their proteges. Protagoras' protege was Pericles, who guided the Athenians into a Golden Age and was called the First Citizen of Athens.
Socrates' protege was Alcibiades, a sulky, selfish guy who ran over to Sparta after Athens threatened to trial him for defacing the city, then ran from Sparta to Perisa after sleeping with the King's wife.
Socrates just asks questions and annoys people with puns, Protagoras gives an actual constructive worldview.
No-brainer who the superior philosopher was.
