Is this book worth reading? I'm only a few pages into it, but the writing is fucking horrible. Confused as to why this book is so celebrated.
>Suddenly he slid into her heat.

I'll give you another sample:
>under the moon on the sea of her, his fingers were knobbed peninsulas.

It's "of it's time". There must be better experimental fiction out there.
From what I can a lot of Delany is proudly for perverts by perverts.
Just check out Hogg.

I own Hogg and wanted to get another Delany because I want a more normie thing to point to in case anyone takes Hogg off my shelf and starts flipping through it
>tfw the only version available is the horrible SF Masterworks edition

the UK sucks that's what I'll say

Yes, start at the second chapter and read the first chapter after you finish the rest of the book. First bit has some unnecessary virtuoso poetry that is a bit of a stumbling block to the narrative.

Babel-17 and Empire Star were earnest attempts at 1950s-style SF, but even so you could see his gaye biker / poet fetish leaking through.

Loved this book and even I'll admit the first pages are kind of banal. By the second chapter though, the narrative really takes off.

this made me cringe

I am literally a gay pervert. I read some other book by Delany and liked it, so was pretty excited to try Dhalgren
I wanted to stop reading almost immediately, but forced myself through 300 pages, hoping and waiting for it to get good. It never did. It's bad
