Should I read Naked Lunch? Is it worthwhile? What should I expect?
Also should I read The Soft Machine?

Yes to both.

Read Naked Lunch, if you like it, then Soft Machine and Ticket that Exploded are very similar.
His final trillogy, Cities of the Red Night, The Place of Dead Roads and the Western Lands are also very good. They have a similar hellscape feel of Naked Lunch, but with a slightly more conventional storytelling method.
Just don't be tricked into thinking there is a traditional plot or conclusion to any of these books. They tend to end abruptly.

Burroughs is a goddamn genius my man
read the Soft Machine and the entire Nova trilogy too, and when you're done with that, read the Red Night trilogy. If you like it, read Interzone (essentially an earlier, less surreal Naked Lunch) and The Wild Boys. read Exterminator if you want short stories

no it's trash

It is trash, but this is a good thing and everyone should read it
