Do people take this guy seriously? I sort of want to read his stuff but he seems kinda silly from the way people depict him.
Have been stalling on reading him

Approach his philosophy like it's a horror story and you're in for a fun time.
Can't speak on its validity as theory, but it's a heck of a ride

>>9348099
he's 100% right about everything

He's not silly at all. Nick Land 1.0 is another continental philosopher with the usual bunch of references and a penchant for Deleuze.

Then he has a William Weir moment and leaves space and time with the CCRU.

Much later on he reappears as a shadowy political presence who now represents everything he (arguably) used to hate. Marxist philosophers are always bewitched by capital, Nick Land just looked beyond the veil and went bananas.

It's a pretty rad story arc. After him the revolutionary forces reacting against capital take a much more right-wing rather than left-wing dimension. NL himself is more about tech than ethnat stuff but...well, I've said enough.

He is neat though. The book looks thick but only about half of the essays are intelligible and of those only two or three are really critical, IMHO.

So what's the period where he's NL 1.0? Or what should I look at in particular? I found a pdf and I'll give it a try before anything else

The first essay in FN, 'Kant, Capital, and the Prohibition of Incest' is as fine a piece of continental philosophy as you will read anywhere. When he writes about Transcendental Miserabilism he's saying something I think is really significant. It's a really superb essay. That and 'Meltdown' are the must-read/don't miss pieces. He was an excellent scholar when he wanted to be.

You can read the CCRU stuff too but only if you're a big fan. Or the Accelerationist reader for more late-Marxist stuff, he's got a couple of essays in there.

As FN goes on he loses his mind. There's also his book on Bataille but it didn't do much for me.

If you have some familiarity with Marx, Deleuze, Heidegger et al you might find it more interesting, but it's not really necessary, I think. You can just jump in.

Thanks for the help. I've done most of study in Hegel, Heidegger, and Deleuze, so it'll be fun to go into something like this.
>>
>>9348336
Good luck then. I think Land actually offers one of the most interesting takes on Deleuze ever...it's kind of a nightmare, and in many ways takes the most affirmative and liberatory aspects of Deleuze's stuff and turns it on its head into this despotic acceleration schema...but for all that he's accused of being a troll, I think NL just wanted to be the canary in the coal mine and stick his head as far down into the abyss as it would go. What he winds up seeing down there isn't pretty but I've yet to hear a more imaginative theory of catallaxy (the notorious alien AI-attack from the future, which is much the same as Roko's Basilisk). Philosophy would be the poorer without him.

Anyways, have fun.
