I did that with the book I just released. I had a pretty solid beginning to end plot and got a little over halfway done writing it before I had an epiphany that would sever chapters 13-26 completely, and I did it. Even though a lot of the stuff I didn't use was and is good, it ultimately wasn't right. You want what's right. Every single time you should want what serves the narrative in the right way.
