hey /lit/, I'm looking to get into John Barth, but I can only buy one book right now. Should I start with The Sot-Weed Factor or Giles Goat-Boy? thanks in advance.

I've read Giles Goatboy and Lost in the Funhouse. Funhouse was more accessible if you're into that.

I've read that Funhouse is a short story collection but is unified somehow? how cohesive is it as a read? because I don't normally like short stories.

It's very cohesive in it's theme, maybe not so much in it's content. It's got three stories (possibly one more) that are connected

I started with the Sot-Weed Factor and absolutely loved it. Just start there, it's a masterpiece.

alright will do, thanks
Best place to start are his first two novels Floating Opera & End of the Road (sold together as one volume). Barth is really an author who benefits from being read chronologically. But if you're bent on reading one of the two you listed, Sot Weed is a better choice
