Am I the only one who really hated the homo-turn on this book? I think it undermines what it shows about friendship in a really unfortunate way - with the breaking point being Willem and Jude. Plus, not everyone in this world is gay, man. Fuck you.

I always hate it when an author does something like that.
When I was young, I read a lot of historical novels and in one the author (who got some prices for his book) decided to make two historical characters gay and fuck each other at the end.
It read like some dreadful fanfic.
Michael Chabon is another one who feels he's obligated to put some homo character in each fucking book.
