Depends on the kind of "sad" you're looking for tho, Norwegian Wood is pretty surface-level botched romance sad, but if you want the classic Murakami loneliness and deliberate isolation I'd go for After Dark or Dance Dance Dance... they best capture his unique approach to dialogue and mood creating; I fully admit he's a meh writer but those are two things he's above average at.
