yeah, me too, but I used to read a lot of manga. Since I use goodreads as an overview and nothing else, I only at the first volume of a series, regardless of how many I've read.

Eh, I think some collected 'graphic novel' comics have more words in them than 100-page novellas, and then there's collected short stories, poems, etcetera. Self-imposed rules are very arbitrary whatever you choose to do.
