Is stuff like supermegacomics the post-modern equivalent of literature?
>>9294548
Supermega was an ironic meme years before ironic memes reached any level of popularity.
>>9294728
It isn't ironic, it's post-ironic.
>>9294548
>the post-modern equivalent of literature
>>9295116
>implying books aren't dead
>>9294737
It goes even further than that. It has such a sincere love in being totally weird, it transcends post-irony.
>>9295559
Post-post-irony. I can see it.
Honestly the comic in the OP is the first non-music media I've cried to in a very long time. It's absolutely brilliant in both idea and execution.
Is this just some anti-bluepill meme
>>9295607
yes
>>9294737
No it's absurdist

>>9295607
i don't know
what about jerkcity?
>>9296405
It's about the fact that both me and you would consider the q-keyboard and the feels good button useless and redundant, yet they allow the characters to express themselves in authentic and meaningful ways we couldn't even conceive of. We, in a kneejerking fashion, perceive the characters as foolish, and yet they are happy. And here we are, trying to make sense of the disorder around us, foolishly deluding ourselves into thinking that our posts are more meaningful than a series of the letter "q" or the pure, cathartic expression of "feels good"

This is what the 21st century literature is all about. Postmodernism has not failed, it has elevated us above the shackles of the sensible.
>>9296812
The aggressors did nothing wrong. This is the purest form of humanity and should be exalted
>>9295607
Can you repeat the question?
>>9296885
Truly - the right to an unified community, even if based on a lie, is fundamental to a functional society. If we marginalize those on the outskirts, we are doomed to end up like them. What an insightful piece of art.

I think you might be overthinking it.

ITT: over analyzing and acting like these comics drawn by a man for a couple cheap laughs have any hidden meanings in them.
Thanks OP
>>9297661
Found the brainlet, guys. The meaning is literally right there for you, if only you could see it.
these are pretty old
>>9297685
Well obviously it's impossible to say for sure because there is a lot of complexity to these works and many different interpretations, as well as the fact you can't always understand authorial intent.
The jellyfish one is pretty straightforward though. It's about how we are blinded by our own biases and viewpoints. Our own jellyfish, so to speak. The man sees everything as a jellyfish because there is a jellyfish in front of him, just as our view of the world is distorted and blinds us to the truth.
>>9297685
Greg is feeling useless in a world that literally has no use for him. He's trying to be clever by pranking Robert with a banana but unknown to him everyone else was pranking Robert with the exact same joke. Robert appreciates the sentiment behind the joke but the damage is done. Greg has been exposed as only one of many in a world with not enough validation to go around.
I think the slide one is a statment about capitalism and it's pervasiveness. We rely on it to satisfy our needs but when it fails our needs go unsatisfied.
>>9297695
Hahahah this one got me good
>>9297446
This one is seriously GOAT.
>>9297361
Not that anon, but if it is impossible to overthink anything then all works deserve the same amount of thought then all works are equal.

>>9297446
WHAT DOES IT MEAN BY OSCILLATE
>>9298038
oscillate means move or swing back and forth at a regular speed. That type of fan can be called an oscillating fan
>>9297413
dark
>>9298054
I meant metaphysically, specifically in relation to his declaration of free will
we should make our own
>>9297658
this is too heavy man
>>9298060
The fan is doing what it is designed to do. It is a machine.
>>9297696
died
>>9298060
I always view the declaration of free will as an absurd statement meant to highlight the absurdity of our own belief in free will. We call that fan an oscillating fan and it oscillates as we call a man the mail man and find him deliverign mail. We declare that we have free will and then we find ourselves predictably oscillating between the same old patterns.
>>9298060
It's not so much of the declaration of free will, but of the extents of our perception of our own free will within the realm of our experiences. How it is that we are able to live through life, action, thought and emotion with our perceived reality, but it is in those moments when we oscillate back into the paradigm of our very consciousness, we ultimately realize thatI'm not gonna tell you the rest as I figure you can figure this out yourself without someone spoon-feeding you the answer Just read the comic again.
>>9298110
Why did I purposefully do that?
Think about it...
>>9295695
untrue. the postmodernists hate the absurdists because the 'surds think that stupid one-liners have a deeper meaning.
the surds desperately crave the attention and respectability that the postmodernists have worked hard for, but not to the point of actually creating anything worthwhile.
spork of doom, baby. spork. of doom.
>>9297323
Kek
>>9298117
I know why you did it. It was a dumb thing to do.
>>9298060
The fan thinks it has free will and it chooses to oscillate, but that's actually the only thing it can really 'choose' to do. It has deluded itself into thinking its fate is not set in stone.
On the optimistic side of things, it seems happy doing just that. Maybe it knows deep down that it doesn't have any real choice, but it learned to be happy doing what it was designed to do.
>>9298064
I'll get started on the logo.
>>9298124
>the 'surds think that stupid one-liners have a deeper meaning

I never thought I could get such insight from a webcomic. This guy put artistic merit into webcomics as a medium.
>>9298325
"overthink" was always a should you moron. It implies "too much" , which is not an existential claim but a prescriptive one.
>>9294548
I would pay decent money for a cohesive explanation as to why I find shit like this and Xavier: Renegade Angel funny. They aren't strictly funny in an approachable way, and they certainly aren't anti-humor.
For this comic, I think I appreciate how it is anti-structuralist in nature. In reading these there are not necessarily jokes, but there is definitely comedy. The highest quality supermegacomics not only reject the setups that it makes for its own punchlines, it also rejects a cynical rejection of them by redefining what the setup meant. It is like the webcomic equivalent of Jazz, in that there is a creativity underlying it all, but never it such a way that becomes predictable or tiring.
Anyone interested in this guy should:
1) Watch his "Commentary" videos on Youtube, a series which was tragically short:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBb6CG8zeZ0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsf-0goLuNA
2) Buy his book that is shipping sometime in June/July hopefully. I have never been more excited about funding a Kickstarter.
>>9298991
You're on the right track with the rejection of cynicism. These comics were far ahead of their time - every pore of these comics spells out a sincerity that only a true labor of love could produce. It's truly a multi-level ode to Sarte's absurd authenticity.
Good post. I urge everyone else to fund him on kickstarter and am glad that my thread managed to give him more traffic and traction. The guy deserves everything we can offer.

It's more about how these concepts are presented so concisely in a medium usually considered pop-culture trash. My enjoyment of these comics is completely sincere. I'm sorry you can't appreciate these bite-sized literary snacks.
I can't tell who's being ironic or not anymore ITTI'm not (I am)*

I sincerely hate this thread. I wish /lit/ talked about books with genuine fervour. Instead everybody plays coy and tries to out irony each other through greentext and pretending to like shitty webcomics.

The ironic thing is that irony can be good quality or not. To point out the ironic is supposed to be about highlighting something that the author was not aware of, which complicated their point because their own motivation is wrapped up intimately with the thing they are attempting to make fun of.
So good quality irony shows the sincerity in the author that *thinks* they are being shallow.
The main problem is that people misunderstand the concept of irony. They think they can consciously DO irony, but the whole essence of irony is that the author is ignorant of a factor that makes their point convoluted, the unknown sincerity that complicates their known position. You can't PRETEND to be sincere, and so this whole generation of "Lel so ironic" reddit shitposting is a complete fucking hell hole. The only REAL irony in it all is that these people don't really understand irony.
I want to share some of my comics I made at a retarded time in my life if I may
