I have a hard time believing a Mississippian is one of the greatest American authors of the 20th century, but i'll give him a shot.
>As I Lay Dying
>The Sound and the Fury
>Light In August
I have access to these three novels atm, which is the best to start with Faulkner?
google it fag
I thought the sound and the fury sucked balls.
I've read his three big works & they're all connected. I'd recommend reading in this order:
1. As I Lay Dying
2. The Sound and The Fury
3. Absolom, Absolom!

I have to agree, forced myself to finish it.

1. The Sound and the Fury
2. As I Lay Dying
3. Light In August
If you make it past #1, read the rest.
>Mississippi
LOL

>He got Oprah's Summer of Faulkner box set
nice. read them in that order, then Absalom.

>Oprah's Summer of Faulkner box set
kek, you're right
i actually got them at a thrift store a buck a pop, but maybe the previous owner got that set
Start with As I Lay Dying or The Sound and the Fury. You might want a guide for the latter if you've never read it before. Then go on to Light in August, then Absalom Absalom.

The order you posted in is solid for reading purposes. Faulkner's great, friend, enjoy :)

same but i thought it was my fault for reading too quickly and not paying close enough attention. i didn't read about the plot beforehand so i got totally lost.
I read the first two and was unable to get into A Light In August because it was so far from my expectations going into a Faulkner novel. I would expect: Some short stories of Faulkner's ,> Quentin's Narration of SAF ,> LIA ,> AILD ,> SAF to be a desirable order.

You are a fucking pleb, mate.
Quentin's chapter is one of the finest examples of stream of conciousness.
Although judging from this board's userbase, you probably grew up without an understading of family honor, and how a whore's behavior can taint your name.
I started with A Light In August and loved it.
