Shakespeare is overrated. All he did was compile famous archetypes and stories.
Fucking JK Rowling has a better body of works than him.
Ok, now I know.

>All he did was compile famous archetypes and stories.
He infused its characters with a unique and emotional psychology though that was very innovate at the time and its effects are still felt in literature today.

Fuck off. How deep is the character Romeo?
"Oh I wanna bang Juliet so bad that I'll kill myself"
Nice emotional depth. I think High School Musical: The Novelization has ten times the character development than Shakespeare's deepest work.

I know deep down that you are currently merely pretending.

>reading Shakespeare for his 'stories', most of which were just remakes and retellings of older shit
Shakespeare wrote in verse. People appreciate him for his use of language, not for the originality of his plots.
>>9279881
hah! what a numbskull. Shakespeare was a playwright.
>>9279924
>>b-but his prose was good!
Prose is literally the only reason to read literature you massive fucking pleb
>>9279918
His plays suck, too. I've seen most of the famous adaptations. Even the shitty modern-day Romeo and Juliet with the kickass 90's music.

>Prose is literally the only reason to read literature

You seem really mad

This nigger is baiting lads
This is shit bait so I'm gonna hijack this thread. Just started reading Shakespeare, so far I'm really into it. Currently I'm going through Julius Caesar.
Any advices? What ahoukd I read next? Oh, forgot to mention, English is not my native language so the experience is really rewarding (and slow).
