The phallic representation of the subject is rendered in an ultimately incongruent and disparate collaberation of attempts toward constitution. As seen in the sectioned pieces of the caterpillar, each appearing as if ripped from another picture and unmatching yet in the very arrangement of the unmatched alienated pieces we come towards a whole unit once again.

But yet the genius of the novel is in the final two passages, we find the Caterpillar after remaining hungry all too hungry despite all his previous attempts to possess the objet a retreats to the womb. The coccoon. Represented only in a single panel. The child at this point, having no true understanding of the Caterpiller will percieve this as death, in its transformation from a colourful spectrum to a brown calcified husk.
Rather than reacting in horror however the child will stare blankly as this result is exactly the fate expected of the subject. That which remains hungry starves afterall and such is the intuitive expectation of what can become of a subject to which there is nothing for him in all interactions but that same round void.

Yet something forments, what is revealed to the child is the result of that death is rather a ressurection.
