How do you guys go about building a large vocabulary? Is it really as simple as reading a lot? Do any of you have some sort of method to remembering words that you've learned during reading? It seems that words only stick for me when i've learned a word which then comes up a couple times in subsequent readings or in every day life
Read a lot, and look up a word literally every time you don't know what it means. You have to be diligent about that.

I get that part. What I'm having difficulty in is remembering all the words I look up. I mean how often do you look up a word only to completely forget it a day or two later?

You should find as many ways to use that word in your daily conversations.
Unless you're planning to outdo Joyce I really don't understand why you'd want to expand your vocabulary in this forced manner.

This.
I use a big paper dictionary and every time I look up a word I tally the entry with pencil, if I've looked up a word five times and still don't know it I add it to my notebook of words I should prioritise learning. It's rare that I have to add a word to my notebook though, most times I'll remember the definition of a word before I hit five tallies. I realise this makes me sound a bit autistic but I love it.

I rarely encounter a word I don't know. It's been this way since I was 10.
Lmao brainlet get out.
