Hello, /lit/. I have never been here so I'm not even sure if this thread goes on that board or maybe /mu/. Tried the wiki, archive and catalog for something fitting with no success.
I would like you to, if you can, point me to some decent books about electronic music's history. I'm new to the subject so I don't mind if it's basic. I am sorry if that's not the place for that but it was worth a try.
Picture is somewhat related.
Not exactly about electronic music but The Rest is Noise by Alex Ross is a really good chronicle on contemporary music, including electronic music, since the early 20th century until today.
"Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" by Bill Brewster and Frank Broughto is the best book every written on dance music culture.
Energy Flash by Simon Reynolds is alright and a classic overview of electronic music history.
"More Brilliant than the Sun" by Kodwo Eshun may be nice if you enjoy 90s Nick Land-esque insane rambling.
'Rave And Its Influence On Art And Culture' by Nav Haq
'Energy Flash: A Journey Through Rave Music And Dance Culture' by Simon Reynolds
'Love Saves the Day: A History Of American Dance Music Culture, 1970-1979' by Tim Lawrence

DJ Culture by Ulf Poschardt was pretty definitive when it came out in 97. 400 pages, huge bibliography and footnotes, too.
the movie documentary Better Living through Circuitry was good, I thought.
for just hip hop, Jeff Chang's Can't Stop, Won't Stop was the best I read. Very detailed and well written; good journalism/authoritative but also a nice writer's voice which was absent in the Poschardt book (although I read the English translation from the German.)
sorry I don't know anything more recent.
That's way more of a response I could have hoped for. Thanks a whole lot.
