Also, a philosopher should convince you that philosophy is the way to go, why else would you read him? Just look at Plato or Nietzsche.

next time try reading it by keeping the "contradictions" in mind and then see that he is consciously trying to suggest the reader something, in a sense, between those two ideas as his "true" doctrine. it is the job of the reader, however, to infer these doctrines
aristotle, if we take the words of those who read his extant dialogues, is a clever writer. these are clearly more than just "lecture notes" and what is explicit said isn't always what is meant

reading for the first time and this is enlightening. I was frustrated because plato was very clear, but aristotle has just been "lol, this thing is just like this other thing." "but these things, as we know, are not alike". contradictions left and fucking right.
