Why should I care about anything Plato or Aristotle wrote when I'm objectively superior to them?
I know more about mathematics, physics, technology, history, cosmology, culture, I've read more than them by the virtue of having more books at my immediate disposal, and I'm engaged in a much more complex globalized world which forces me to think on entirely different levels of morality. I also condemn slavery and pederasty.
The study of greeks is a meme, they're worthless antique men who cannot compete.

I agree. Fuck the Greeks. Start with the Bible.

>Implying something is objectively wrong with slavery
this is a rare vintage of bait, to be enjoyed slowly. 10/10.
>>9221962
>Implying that a mountain of distracting sub-disciplines and pseudo-translations of repetitious crap makes for a better worldview

Well, one thing is interesting: Aristotle regarded the Platonic dialogues as poetry. I think reading Plato is meaningful at an individual level at the very least; and he raises questions with answers we may never truly agree unequivocally on.

Memes aside, I've heard it argued that slavery in antiquity, specifically Greco-Roman, was unlike that of the Africans in pre-Civil War America. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this, or is this entirely hogwash?

It's true, slaves had more rights under the law in Rome than blacks.
>>9222088
Roman slaves had a lot of rights, were paid and could own slaves of their own. Killing slaves was a criminal act.

Pretty much any roman history will touch on it at various points. Slaves received more rights during the imperial period so anything from that time really.

Cool, I'll probably just grab the history book that's recommended in that Roman essentials guide in that case. Thanks for the helpful responses my man

Wait a minute, so you could have an endless chain of slaves serving slaves serving slaves etc.?

You could use this as a reason for not reading literally anything writen by someone who has been dead for over 100 years. Way to limit yourself bucko.
