only about 80 pages into this book, but what's the big deal? it's the most pretentious book I've ever read in my entire life. both characters are insufferable, arrogant know-it-alls who constantly shit on everyone around them like they're supreme beings who can do no wrong. they're not likable in any way, and are more muppets/caricatures than actual characters.
maybe it's because i'm american? maybe i don't get the french style of humor, or their grasp of philosophy? I've heard that philosophy is mandatory for french students, but it definitely isn't here.
either way, the book is just excruciating to read. is there something i'm missing that would increase my enjoyment of it?

I would recommend tackling some Chris Chan before reading this

You sound like someone who reads for entertainment. You clearly don't know how to read.
