>haven't read a book in close to a month since uni started
>last book I read was 150 pages long and took me a whole fucking week to read it

Goddammit how do you fuckers find the time?
>>
>>9185029
Good question. I want to know, too.
>>
>>9185029
Well, you could be reading right now instead of browsing /lit/
>>
I manage to read an hour a day while majoring in engineering and working 14 hours a week. I read far more during the summer, though.

I'm single now and have no social life, though. Whenever I have a girlfriend I end up giving up reading due to preferring to study mathematics, which is another hobby of mine
>>
>>9185029
if it's truly important to you, you can find the time.
>coming from a guy who has no job, friends, and classes only three days a week.
>>
>>9185075
Why'd you make me read this. Autobiographic shite.
>>
It's because the pseuds on this board have meme majors that grant them plenty of free time. Have you ever taken a liberal arts course? They require 2-3 hours of work a week versus the 10-15 for a math or science course.

HAHAHAHAHAH Brainlet!

Literally studying right now

Well, not quite. You see, at the very moment you posted that, you were not studying but posting.
>>
>>9185029
>studying electrical engineering and science double degree
>24 hours of classes
>still read at least 2+ hours a day

literally read every time you're not studying. make good use of your free time and try to understand where your time is actually going. i used to spend 3+ hours a day mindlessly browsing the internet but now read instead

How so? Is this just a matter of being more conscious? Or did you use any particular tools?
>>
>>9185378
I just took 1 minute while my textbook is loading to come and post again
>>
>>9185522
in my case it was just being more conscious of what i was doing. i noticed that i would waste time just watching shitty youtube videos for hours, or scrolling through fb mindlessly, browsing 4chan too much, or stuff like that. i realized that it simply wasn't what i wanted to be doing in my free-time. when i do something, i stop and ask myself if this is what i really want to be doing.

i also try to be completely focused on what i'm doing. for example, i've found that a 1 hour worksheet can easily take 2+ hours if im browsing 4chan or checking my phone every 2 seconds.

This is probably easier said than done though as it can be hard to break/change a habit. Mindfulness helps with regards being aware of what you're doing. search "smiling mind" on google if you're interested.

Do universities still make you pay for those old fashioned gas guzzlers? I haven't charged my textbook in a month and she runs like a dream, no load times.
>>
>>9185029
I read on my 2 hour train ride to and from uni.

Man I work 40 hours and I feel like I have plenty of time to read. It helps that my commute is 5 minutes I suppose. The key is, shockingly, to spend less time dicking around on the internet.

plan all your week and daily habits on excel and then print it on your wall

>tfw intermittent reader
>took two years to read the first half of catcher in the rye
>finished the second half in one evening

When I was in trade school, I barely had time to read except on the weekends. And you know what? I managed to finish four books in between school and work. It took me about 4 months or so to finish those 4 books.

does anyone actually do this?
trying to structure my life more, but I don't see how it would be possible to eg read from 6 till 7, shitpost from 7 till 7.30, etc
can you really relax when you 'have to'?
>>
>>9185029

Quit excessive internet (limit yourself to 20-30 minutes daily) and quit porn entirely.

>read from 6 till 7, shitpost from 7 till 7.30, etc
The problem with structuring your day like this is that you quickly begin to feel less like a human and more like an automaton. Also, if your motivation to do what you planned to do runs low at any point, your schedule goes to shit.

Some structure is important. It's a good idea to go to sleep and wake up around the same times every day, for example. You might already have a daily structure build automatically. Maybe you take a shower and brush your teeth every morning, or you go to work for 8 hours a day.

One solution may be to give yourself times during the day to "relax." But what does "relaxation" entail? Is reading, or studying something you're interested in, or practicing skills, or doing hobbies truly relaxing? Is your job, or studying subjects for school any more strenuous than those things? Should you see those things that you value highly as "work," and not worthy of your "relaxation" time? That's something I've struggled with.

Anyway, I dunno dude. Structuring life is hard, and probably artificial. It's tempting to just forget about it and follow where your motivation leads you. But that comes with the problems of procrastination, starting things that you never complete, never developing meaningfully as a person, etc.
