What are people's thoughts on the P/V translation of this?
I've been reading it and it's a very accessible, gripping translation - though the gripping might just be because of the authors construction of the novel.
The footnotes included are helpful and promote a better understanding of the text, not only just telling what certain Russia-centric words and names mean, but giving insight into the significance to the satire Bulgakov was producing of Russian society at that time of history.
It's good but that cover gave me cancer.

I found the P+V translation to be awful, but I've never read any other version so can't make any comparisons.

apparently the P+V is similar to the Burgin and Tiernan O'Connor translation which has been hailed as the best translation by several critics
"It's time to throw everything to the devil and go to Kislovodsk." (Burgin and Tiernan O'Connor)
"It's time to send it all to the devil and go to Kislovodsk." (Pevear and Volokhonsky)
