Skip it. He tells the history of the book, a bit of a bio on Gaddis, then gives a brief overview of the Grecian mythos that The Recognitions evokes, before telling the final event of the book. It is a fantastically written intro, but it over-contextualizes the mythological element of the book's structure in a way that is better avoided on the first read.
