The problem with /mu/'s brand of elitism is that it's based on extra-musical characteristics such as popularity and some vague concept of "coolness", and has very little to do with the actual quality of the music being discussed. The reason for this is that very few people on /mu/ are actually endowed with anything approaching genuine musical knowledge, so they can only ever criticise music on the most superficial level. Using "normie-tier" as a criticism is a very /mu/ thing to do.
