If a book is a hard read, I usually prefer silence. But I think some books benefit a lot from atmospheric music.
My favorite ones are the soundtrack from fallout games and diablo, drone music, and minimalistic music.

Earth is fantastic my man. Listened to exactly that album yesterday when reading.

Also ambient, jazz and noise are pretty good at times as well.

classical minimalism, ambient, and lo-fi instrumental hip-hop are good reading music for me.

as a matter of fact I find it difficult to focus on reading without music.

Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um, A Love Supreme - John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman - The Shape Of Jazz To Come, Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch are my favorite reading jazz albums.

Also you can never go wrong with Coltrane, everything from his casual to avant-garde stuff is great.

Great stuff. On a Paul Chambers kick myself right now- the whims of, bass on top, the MD quintet stuff, RG trio, and stuff with Bill Evans, too. Reading Knausgaard.
