Just finished this
Can't decide whether I greatly dislike it or just found it alright. I found the ending a bit disappointing I suppose.
For those who have read it, what were your thoughts?

I found her simple, slangy style (often ascribed to her being pomo) kind of annoying at times, as was the "obscure words" device, but overall I thought the story was interesting. A lot of the themes are typical dystopia fodder, though I found the world she created was pretty neat.
As for the ending, do you mean the very ending (the final beach scene)? Or do you mean the end of the Crake story line?

Well, as far as I recallwe know right from the start that Crake caused all of this, all Snowman's journey really does is show off the animals and the Crakers. It gives some closure on the specifics of what happened in the final moments, but I think it was an uninteresting way to go with the double-murder at the airlock. Crake has been the exact same character since he was introduced at 14 and Oryx has been nothing but some zen character who doesn't do anything except get that promise from Jimmy and detail a pointless backstory.
I suppose the beach scene reinforces that 'Snowman has now come over to Crake's side and has rejected humanity', but that didn't have much impact for me.

You greatly dislike it.

Read it for high school assignment, was awful and put me off trying any of her other work. Something about it made me angry, maybe it was the nonsensical progression and plot coupled with her presentation of the setting.

Why was it nonsensical?

It's the first post in most threads. You should know since you're the one making them.

I read Cat's Eye in high school and was mostly kind of bored and confused. Atwood sounds like a neurotic bitch.
"Jimmy begins to refer to him as Crake, when he uses that name in an online trivia game called Extinctathon. Jimmy and Crake spend much of their leisure time online playing games, smoking "skunkweed" and watching underground videos such as live executions, graphic surgery, Noodie News, frog squashing and child pornography.[4][5][6] During one of their child pornography viewings, Jimmy is very much love- struck by the gazing eyes of a young Asian girl seen in the porn."

"After high school, Crake attends the highly respected Watson-Crick Institute where he studies advanced bioengineering, but Jimmy ends up at the loathed Martha Graham Academy, where students study humanities, only valued for their propaganda applications. "
