My native language isn't Spanish though. I'm kind of butthurt though because I just hate that Americans get the little they know about something they then compare to something else if it looks 1% similar they impose their world view in all cultures. They know Mexicans very well so everything that shares something with Mexicans are Mexicans. But you'd call me a retard if I said that a English guy is the same as an American or even an Irish guy is the same as an English guy.

I haven't read much Latin American/Spanish stuff but I did enjoy A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Just a short story but worth a read.
Borges, Marquez and Cortazar.
I also like Casares but I don't think his body of work is on the same level as those three.
