I can't figure out how commas and periods work. (should this be a comma or period?) In English or my own language.
This is harder than quantum physics.

You put periods after full sentences but commas before starting a dependent clause.

I can't figure out how commas or periods work. I want to learn, but I'm not sure where to look. I came here wondering if you guys could help me. I feel pretty dumb, but I don't think it's my fault. Pic related, by the way, it's how I feel.
Hope you can figure it out by reading. It's pretty simple, really. If you need more help, I can go further. How old are you? What's your first language?

Periods are easy, they only go at the end of a sentence or sometimes in certain abbreviations. Commas though, fuck commas.

I have the same problem but in regards to full stops vs. colons vs. semicolons.

Put a comma in when you take a breath.
Add commas when you add an extra part, like this one here, into an already complete sentence.

It's fairly easy. You just need to work harder, OP.

Read the rules and apply them?

Would this work? If I put a comma right after "sentences" and right before "but"?
In that vein, should I have put a comma right before my "and" in "and right before"? Freaking-A, "but" and "and" always messes me up when it comes to commas.
I also get messed up when it comes to adjectives and stuff.
Is it
>"That guy, over there, is a big, dumb idiot"
Or is it
>"That guy over there is a big dumb idiot"?
What's easier to read? Can normies read both just fine, and it all depends on your own personal style? Or is there a definitive way it needs to be structured or nobody will ever understand you?
