Layman version:
Speech is only symbology. It is of the same type as non-human animals' grunts and gestures.
Only those strings of symbols which are able to breach the divide between each of us are 'human' as used in this sense.
Human (as an adjective) being a sense of reality or truth that can be mutually understood by humans (plural).
So the only way speech can reveal a reality is when it is able to transcend personal subjective experience and be 'real' to a group. This acknowledgement by a multitude gives the statement or concept its reality.
