If reading is not from early childhood an established habit it is natural for people to start reading because we want to reach worldly ambitions. However reading will inevitably turn into a pleasure and if we read the great works of western literature we will soon begin to view literature as one of the highest forms of activities. It is also a solely spiritual activity, it is a way to remove ourselves from our futile search of worldly pleasures. We will find the debates about literature pointless compared to actually reading the books. In the end what someone else thinks has no meaning to you, you know what you think and what someone else thinks is somehow irrelevant. Reading is therefore a solitary activity and it will always remind us that we are lonely being who must make our own path.

I heard he fought he duel before because his relation with another man was questioned. If I had known he was going to write a masterpiece like the Recherche I would have volunteered to duel in his stead desu

talking about the shared appreciation for a book can of course be uplifting. It is when you have different opinions that speaking about literature can feel pointless.
