DUDE WEED LMAO
It's fun to read out loud

been doing exactly that all morning and now I can't stop doing a Scottish accent
Loved it. I've got Porno and Skagboys to read as well.

Surprised to find it wasn't actually a novel, but a collection of linked short stories (and some of the links are very tenuous.)
The prose was pretty average, and it seemed to rely mostly on shock value. Average.
It's great. Unpretentious, just is itself. Leaves me thinking in Scottish for weeks after I finish it.

to be fair I think you're right about it being for shock value, but some of the sentences in there really shine so I wouldn't totally write the prose off as average. Hate to think what that manuscript would have looked like in word with all the phonetic spelling!

in my opinion skagboys >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> trainspotting > porno

Tell me please, what is Scottish?
>>9087645
Funny, I had this after finishing Filth. I couldn't help but incorporate slang Scottish terms in my daily interactions either.

An English dialect

"ken" is top tier.
I liked Trainspotting a lot. I've also read Filth, which was not bad, but not as good. I've read some of Porno, but dropped it because I got bored I guess.

Indeed, the "ya ken?" bits always get me going. I ought to read Trainspotting really, but I've refrained due to the popularity, which I know wasn't a good reason. Especially considering Filth isn't exactly 'rare'.
I was attempting to read the sequel to Filth, but Christ that was lazy writing, plot-wise mostly, on Welsh's part.

You really should read Trainspotting, it's very good.

>I ought to read Trainspotting really
Not really. It mostly trades on the notoriety of the film, which is considerably better crafted than the book. It's an example of how a talented director can elevate mediocre source material. See also Jaws, The Shining, True Grit etc.
