Horror Thread
Horror in my opinion is one of the most underappreciated genres on the planet. When one who isn't very well acquainted with the genre thinks "horror" they think Stephen King dime novels and the money sponge abortions that hollywood pumps out every week. Personally I think the concept of fear and the unknown are incredibly interesting subjects to read about.
Lets have a thread dedicated to horror as a genre and the geniuses who influenced it. (Lovecraft, Poe, Blackwood, Stoker, Shelly, ect)
Literature Thread
Literature in my opinion is one of the most underappreciated genres on the planet. When one who isn't very well acquainted with the genre thinks "literature" they think Shakespeare plays and the complex works the Greeks produced. Personally I think the concept of good writing is incredibly interesting subjects to read about.

Horror is a genre that seeks to evoke in its readers a single emotion: fear. It's similar to the comedy genre in this sense. Both are basically pornography. They rely on a few basic elements to achieve that emotion.

>Implying that a horror novel can only inspire fear and can only be two dimensional

Stephen King is an excellent world-builder but his actual stories are pretty eh.
The King in Yellow is worth reading for "The Yellow Sign" alone.

Not true. 'Quality' horror is about evoking sober reflection through allegory, metaphor, analogy, ect.
Lovecraft, for instance, tries to make the reader think of the universe in a less anthropocentric way and stresses the reader to focus on how limited of a capacity that humans actually have to understand the cosmos.
I will agree with you though when it comes to writers like King, it is just fear porn.
"The Horla" by Guy de Maupassant is pretty awesome, no wonder it greatly influenced Lovecraft. One of the best horror pieces out there.
