Read Michel DeCerteau's article on the history of mysticism. I think it's just called "mysticism," published in Diacritics in the 90's. Also, if its Christian medieval mysticism, you can do no better than Bernie McGinn's stuff on the birth and flowering of mysticism.
Naming random mystics is useless. Establish some historical/metaphysical/theological context first.
