Setting: Paris, residential neighborhood - just before the terror, but after the initial revolution.

Plot: A young man gets into a heated argument with one of his rivals at the coffeehouse (over, lets say, how our main character tried to elope with his rival's sister). As his foe gets up and leaves, main character's friend tells him that his foe is close friends with some of the newly formed secret police.

Main character must decide whether or not to kill his rival that evening before he can be reported on. He decides to commit the murder, but finds as he approaches the rival's house that political winds have ALREADY shifted, and the house has been ransacked. The rival has been carried away, and (depending on how risque you want to get) the rival's aforementioned sister was either raped or killed.

Theme of the story: revolutionary violence is blind and unpredictable.
