Yes it fucking did. One of the major themes in the book is about people dreaming of some socialist utopia where everyone will be happy and all their problems will be solved. Raz argues that this doesnt take into account human irrationality and that human suffering will persist.

as for the "be yourself" part, thats quite evident in the numerous rants in the book about how its better to live your own lies than someone elses truths. Raskoinkolv was living someone elses truth (despite being a highly empathetic individual as evident from his dreams, he commits murder in order to be "extraordinary"), and it drove him to insanity.

Neither of these rants are directed at Rask, in fact Rask isnt even present for one, but they do certainly apply to Rask who himself admits he believes in "new jerusalem". Also the other speech about "being wrong in your own way instead of being right someone elses way" absolutely describes how Rask was essentially betraying his own nature when he commited murder
