What does /lit/ think about this book? I've had disagreements over it with three different people (all of whom happened to be girls). All of them passionately loved the book and thought it was beautiful. They seemed kind of flabbergasted that I didn't. I thought the author was trying way, way too hard. Every sentence might as well have been replaced by "LOOK AT ME I AM TRYING TO MAKE THIS VERY DEEP AND BEAUTIFUL." Felt gimmicky as well.
But that is my opinion.

Its YA

Indeed.
definitely parts where the author was being over symbolic and introspective. but it was a pretty easy read and i found it enjoyable. it's more of a young adult novel and i don't think it claims to be more than that.

I enjoyed it, but only read it because it was part of my Young Adult Lit class. It was good for postmodern YA, but also dreadfully boring because the genre has been pumped dry. I think his attempt to personify death wasn't that great, but he puts some humanity into his characters.
P.S. Hitler did nothing wrong.

it's a YA novel, duh, but i mean, it's pretty OK for a YA novel
