If I go to my university literature society will I make friends?
Has anyone tried one?
Do they only read Harry Potter?
Is it a good society for assburgs like me?
You won't know until you've met them.

stop being a pussy and go
Worth a try if you think you're capable of not losing sight of why you're there.
But for the average anon the need to make sure everyone knows that he is a certified patrician will overcome the desire to make friends.

Go for it, I doubt you'll regret it.
A little bit of advice would be that "What have you been reading lately?" Is often a better question than "What/who is your favourite novel/ist?". For anyone that likes reading enough to go to a lit society, responding to the latter feels a bit like putting your entire self out there to be judged and having to do so with strangers is likely to make them defensive and uneasy. it's usually not pleasant for the one asking the question either.
