I use them for textbooks, saved me a lot if neck pain.

Everybody at my law school uses them in class b/c there's not enough room to lay your book flat and have the computer open at the same time. I gave into the peer pressure.

I've got one of these that I found in an op shop. It's pretty cool, though I use it sparingly. I've got another one like OP pic but I only use it for textbooks on my desk, or cookbooks in the kitchen.
