I was at the bookstore and saw this edition of Lord of the Flies. It's got the fancy flaps and ripped up pages and looks like shit. I looked on the inside however. It was a Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition with an introduction by Stephen King. I'm already thinking what the fuck, but I look at the material at the end.
There is a section about how to teach the book to high school students, followed by a section on where to pursue similar ideas as those presented in the book. What does it recommend? YA books. And not just YA books! Next up it tells you to read Ta Nahesi Coates and articles on Black Lives Matter. I stopped there and put it back on the shelf.
What the fuck is Penguin doing?

they're pandering to a specific demographic to increase sales, you mong

What demographic? Leftist jackboot high school teachers?

Who the fuck else buys LotF? At least 80% of that book's sales must be for high school classes, whether purchased by the teacher or by students at the teacher's instruction. Public school teachers are almost all left-wing commies (they don't let you graduate from ed school otherwise), so obviously this shit appeals to them.
