I really need to go read Captain Underpants again.

On topic though, I'd say it all depends on the quality of the writing, rather than whether or not it's for children or adults. When I read as a child all that mattered was an interesting story, the size of the book or the age range didn't matter. Same applies now. Shit like Artemis Fowl, Mister Monday and Mokee Joe can still hold my attention.

Read whatever you want. Let kids read whatever they want. There are decent books in both categories that can be enjoyed by anyone. The only requirement you need to read a book is the ability to read it, and anyone who tells you different is a pretentious blowhard.
