Raskolnikov just could not keep his shot together. There was no evidence but he was so very easily worked up by any mention of the murder that he starts asking questions like "do you think I did it?" and "what evidence do you have?" Not to mention his encounter with Zomitov at the bar, which set tbe whole thing off.
