I read that translated to Swedish when I was 16. But only the first four volumes were translated so I never found out how it ended.

Not sure if it's applicable to OP though since he asked for something like Lord of the rings. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman write Dungeons & Dragon's style fantasy.
