I've never read any Stephen King. I know he's generally looked down on around here but I'd like to read at least one of his books considering his prominence. Any recommendations?

Read Misery or one of his short story collections. He's at his most focused when he has a really narrow premise/small word count to work with.

It. That's it.

Pet semetary.
The shining.
It is too bizarre for me.
The dark tower series is probably his best work. Everyone loves or hates king for various reasons, I feel like he gets shit on just to get shit on. All I know is the DTS changed my life. But if you don't like huge interconnected world plot, then his short stories (skeleton crew is my favorite) or something he was coked out on like misery or the tommy knockers is good

Carrie is supposed to be one of his best, and it's fairly short. It's also the only one of his I've read (well, I've also read On Writing, which is decent), and it's not very good.

'It' is probably his best novel.
