Sometimes I read too fast and occasionally skip over words. How do I slow down my reading speed so that I cease this pleb habit?

I have the same problem. I speed up reading when the action speeds up. I think it's great tho, because if something really quick happens, you drop some words and action becomes more real - when in adrenaline rush, your focus changes and you may miss some details. To sum it up - I would not change anything.

Figure out the right voice for the narrator. Sometimes it's the author, but often not. Read the opening lines and probe your consciousness, and just listen in a quiet room for the story to speak to you. Then, let the narrator tell you the story.
Start by reading the first passage out loud, and then subvocalize just a little faster

Ask yourself this: Are you even reading?
your brain is trained to ignore irrelevant information. just embrace it.

But won't that indirectly affect my writing?
ADHD?

Make sure you can repeat each sentence/phrase to yourself word for word, in your head, before you move on. I can't help but do this and as a result I never miss a word, though I also read quite slowly.
