Depends. Do you want to know what the book is about or do you want pretty sounding words that in no way can approach the original greek sound and rhyme?

Verse. The rhythm of the reading is rooted in a line-based structure. The battle scenes will be even more intolerable and inexplicable to a normalfag reader without it. And >>8927926 is ridiculous, the verse won't impede your understanding, indeed it'll do the opposite, by providing structure to the sentences.

I suggest Richmond Lattimore as far as a baseline translation goes. It won't be in meter, nor will it rhyme, but the sense will get across best.
