I just read the first Ravenor book and it does a good job describing out of body soul-fights between two powerful psykers, which in 40K basically amounts to magic.

The book is interesting for this kind of stuff cause it's about an inquisitor who has severe all over third degree burns, and is unable to live outside of an enclosed life-support wheel-chair, but he can still interact with the world due to psychic powers that became more powerful after losing so much of his other senses.
