Just thought you should know that this is in fact a great book. Thanks for reading

that wasn't me.

This book completely fails to hold my attention for whatever reason

this. also, very bad style, even if it's intentional

I wouldn't say the style is bad, Celine was a good writer. I don't really know what it is about it but I've talked to a number of people who couldn't finish it. I think it may be that it's sort of depressing

Céline's style is everything, it's flawless, you fucking anglo.

This is Céline's best work, but read Death on Credit too. His other books are only worthwhile if you already have developed a taste for him.

The part in the trenches is pretty dismal, as well as the end. Robinson's monologue at the end is the best, and at the same time the saddest part of the book.

First half of the novel is amazing, some of the greatest writing of the 20th century and a brilliant dissection of war, colonialism and industrial capitalism. When Bardamu returns to France the novel loses those themes and it becomes a rather tedious trudge with a bunch of flat secondary characters (save one or two bits).

Nah the best part of the book is Prichard's rant about nationalism.
And Celine's style is unimpeachable, come on.
