Does that mean you shouldn't take advice from people? Or read books that help you?
I mean, I want to learn how to program, but I can't learn that without a book ir other resource. Same for biological sciences, math, philosophy, psychology, and everything else. What makes self improvement different? It's learning a skill that helps you become better.

Only if you apply the principles in it. Reading it won't help on its own. But ut's helped me a lot. After you read it, you should take a look at Seneca for similar reading or Ryan Holiday for a more modern Stoic perspective.
