"Trymskvida" by Snorre Stulrason is pretty good desu. The story of Balder's death is also quite good.

Im almost done with Independent People now. Amazing book - characters, tone, and descriptions of the landscape all fusing together to make the ultimate comfy experience. I wish it was more widely known in America, desu.
Read the first chapter sitting on a rock near Reykjavik. Transformative.

Started Independent People a while back but got bored after the second chapter. When does it start to pick up?

Yeah, I actually hit the same wall you did. The first chapter completely blew me away and then I sort of put it down for a while. I'm glad I picked it up, though.
Once you get past the wedding and the shepherd's meetings things pick up.

I picked up Laxness while I had a layover in Keflavik airport and I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth getting into

>shepherd's meetings
sounds comfy

>laxness.jpg
More like relaxness.jpg to be desu.

>shepherd's meetings
Fucking bureaucracy, it taints everything nowadays. What's next, shepherds' team building? Shepherds' hostile takeovers? (inb4 the Iliad)

This just got (re)released in English, with what I assume is a new translation. It is Laxness' imitation and version of the old sagas. I haven't gotten to it yet so I have nothing more to say.
